  6. Mine are a bit obscure, and they change often, but here's a few...

    1. The 77s (They've been all over the map musically, but I love them in every iteration. They also have very dark lyrics, but they manage to pull it off without getting depressing or emo.)
    2. Adam Again (After their first album, they settled into a great alternative groove. Their third album, Dig, is musically and lyrically the best alternative album I've ever heard.)
    3. The Lost Dogs (This is real country music, not the pop country that seems to get radio airplay these days.)
    4. R.E.M. (I've never heard an R.E.M. song I don't like. Also, they make great homework music.)
    5. Rosie Thomas (She writes mindblowing lyrics and has a great voice, and she's hilarious in concert.)
    6. U2 (Their older stuff is seriously awesome, though I'm not as fond of their more recent work.)

Yep, I had to pick six also. :)

Guilty pleasures: The Cure, Duran Duran
