CHRONICLE DESPERATE FOR WRITERS!

North Central, the Chronicle needs your help! As the Forum editor, I've been witnessing student apathy for our school newspaper and it makes me INCREDIBLY sad. We went from last year having at least 13 regular writers to just having 2 or 3 on a weekly basis. Where's the passion NCC? Is this evidence that journalism is struggling?

Despite the fact that newspapers are struggling everywhere, at NCC I feel it's incredibly important having our voice heard on campus and the Chronicle is the perfect opportunity to do it. We shouldn't let it go to waste. We are the voice of this campus and we shouldn't forget that. We pay a crazy amount of money to go here and we should have a say in what goes on on our campus. The Chronicle is our tool for commentary on our college.

If you are interested in writing for the Chronicle we meet every Monday in Upper LAC.
Experience isn't needed! We like working with new writers.

Praying for a Snow Day

Can we have it just this once NCC? I know everyones babbling about how this might be the time when they finally call school off, but I won't hold my breath. I have so much to do this week, and a day off would be lovely. I think we should all be able to call in one mental health day a term, just to relax. Yes we do have the weekends for this, but we work hard. At least some of us do.

The Razzies are announced!

Who hates Twilight? *raises hand* Who's really happy that the film industry hates it just as much as I do? THIS KID! Every category in the infamous Razzie awards contains at least one nomination for Twilight: Eclipse. So glad that others recognize the god-awful franchise for what it is....utter trash. Here's a link to the other nominations if you're curious!

Who do you think should be nominated???

Google: An Addicts Confessions

Well, to be honest I must say Google is a slight addiction of mine. I suppose it could be worse. I could be addicted to cigarettes or some other nasty drug. It's better than my caffeine addiction at least. But I realized how hard my life would be if I didn't have Google. Here are a series of things I use Google for daily.

  • Spell checking words I do  not know. I get antsy when my spelling is off.
  • Logging into my gmail account
  • Checking my google site work schedule
  • googling Professor Macek's name to get to the Intro to New Media Course Blog ( I should just bookmark it.)
  • news bits I want to know more about
  • sparknoting english assignments if I don't have time to read. (all english majors do this, there is never enough time to read EVERYTHING that is assigned everyday, lets be honest.)
  • band research for album reviews I write
etc...
I use google so many times each day I lose count. While we are all addicted to Google, I fail to see how it's a bad thing. The internet provides information availabe 24/7 just through our fingertips. I feel like a much better informed citizen because of it. It allows me to view the events in the world at anytime.

Crank Calls

Isn't it sad that kids these days can't crank call people much anymore? I remember the day's when my friends and I would crank call each other as Dr. Tegucigalpa....oh childhood.

A Reaction to Blog Prompt 1

For my first Blog Prompt I decided to read Megan Reardon's interview about blogging. It struck me how many followers one can get by just focusing on one topic that appeals to a mass of people. I have my own Tumblr blog on top of this one, and while I have a small following, it's nowhere near the following some get. *If you're interested you should check it out but there is some crude humor so be warned.* The Tumblr's that do get a large following are usually the subject specific blogs such as: fan blogs, fashion blogs, or celeb specific blogs.

I guess I could get a better following by being more specific, but as its my personal blog, I just post what I like, which goes across many different areas of interest. I can relate to what Megan says about a blog being a place for future references of things I'm doing daily or what to keep record of. I post videos I want to show someone later, or funny pictures I can look at later if I need a bit of cheering.

Anyway, I don't think much can be learned from reading about WHY people blog. While it's interesting in some aspects, I think it's more interesting to think about why people READ blogs.

So it begins...

And so I have started blogging for my Intro to New Media class. It's quite exciting. I'm sure you're all just tickled pink to be reading what I have to say.
